Alberta Beef Producers and the Beef Cattle Research Council have developed a two-page summary to give Canadian cattle producers a heads-up about how upcoming Health Canada and provincial government policy changes will impact over-the-counter antimicrobial access. One side summarizes the upcoming changes (as of Dec. 1st you will need a vet prescription to access any medically important antimicrobial). The other side lists the cattle (beef and dairy) antibiotics that will be affected by these changes. Click here to view and download.

Dr. Oliver Schunicht accepts award from Dr. Tim Nickel (Boehringer Ingelheim)

This year’s recipient of the Boehringer Ingelheim WCABP Veterinarian of the Year award was Dr. Oliver Schunicht from Okotoks, AB.

Dr. Schunicht graduated from the WCVM in 1994 and has spent virtually his entire career practicing bovine production medicine with Feedlot Health Management Services in Okotoks as an associate field veterinarian, researcher and production consultant. In recognition of his expertise, Oliver is often asked to speak at both national and international conferences on topics of bovine health management and production.

Oliver is currently a member of the CABV/ACVB Board of Directors and is a past president of the WCABP.  As well, he has sat on several other committees related to the veterinary profession and is always valued for his insight and vision.

In addition to his work with Feedlot Health Management Services he compliments his veterinary expertise with a solid understanding of beef cattle production, maintaining his own 400 head Angus based cow/calf operation and a 1,000-head feedlot. He is highly respected for his broad understanding of the industry by both colleagues and clients alike.

Oliver is an outstanding example of a veterinarian that has made a difference to the cattle industry in Western Canada and is a very deserving recipient of the WCABP Veterinarian of the Year award.

WCABP's Bylaws indicate that an Honorary Life Membership may be awarded to an individual who is 65 years of age and has made an Outstanding contribution to either the affairs of the Association or veterinary profession. Members nominate a potential recipient by forwarding a letter to WCABP's Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Murray Jelinski, which outlines the nominee's achievements and why the person is worthy of an Honorary Life membership. This must then be passed by two-thirds (2/3) majority vote at the AGM.

Consider nominating a deserving individual. Awards will be presented at the WCABP 2018 AGM.
