Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED)

July 31, 2013 Written by WCABP
Since late April 2013 an epidemic of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) has been affecting swine herds in the United States. Up to now more than 370 cases have been diagnosed in over 14 states. This disease is new to North America and Canada has « not yet » been affected.

The Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians and the Canadian Swine Health Board are in a process of raising awareness and the national strategy calls for diligence of all swine industry stakeholders. To help prevent this disease taking foot in Canada, early diagnosis is paramount and your members have an important role in this process as they may be called upon by swine producers.
